9/15/08 Wow, Everyone is going home
Our weekend and new friends were amazing. This morning as we took "family pictures" before everyone left. I felt like I was saying good-bye to people that I have known for years. The packed RV park turned into an empty field in just a few hours as folks left for home last night and this morning. We got on the road about 10:00 today and there were still police out directing traffic for the hundreds, perhaps thousands of RVs, trailers and campers leaving the area. Never seen anything like that before in my life. I guess I had never seen much like the entire NASCAR race in my life at all come to think of it. It was awesome!
When the others left we had no idea where we were going to go once we left the campground. After careful map studying, Terry decided we would go toward the Catskills. We are camped in the Catskills Mountains, New York, not to far from Woodstock on Hwy 212. Should be an interesting day tomorrow. Lots to do and see around here. We were sure glad to stop at a KOA this afternoon. We're both tired and Terry was suffering from TV-withdrawal since he hadn't seen it since last Wednesday night. (He and Jim along with Pat, attempted to get our Dish TV satellite to work when it was raining so hard on Friday, but no luck.) Ahhhh, tonight he has cable and we are getting caught up on Ike, politics and the rest of the news. I think that I would have been fine with a news show and then switch to entertainment. So far, we are two hours into politics. I'm thankful that I have the computer to keep me "entertained". Sure do miss the folks in the campground.
The pictures show how close we were camped to the speedway. Our friends, Jim, Pat, Steve, Bev, John, Eric and Jamie posed for a "family picture" before heading in our seperate ways. Jeff had already gone home as had others. Harry, who owns the park, assured us that if we came again next year, we would have a camping spot.
