9/2/08 Meeting Interesting People Along The Way

9/2/08 Meeting Interesting People Along The Way
Pete’s RV Center was able to take the bus for an oil change and tailpipe repair about 8:30 so Terry and I waited in the store with comfortable lawn chairs and Good Morning America on TV. We struck up a conversation with a gentleman who was also waiting for his rig. We have meet many interesting people, but Terry Clark may be the most memorable of all for us both to this point. He is traveling the country in an RV pulling the Air National Guard Mobile Recruiting Station. As a retired fireman and Iraq veteran, he had many interesting experiences to share with us. We shared life and family stories for about three hours and then parted ways. About 6 pm we spotted his 75 foot-long ANG brightly painted RV and trailer at a pizza house and we stopped to say hi. An hour later we were back on the road feeling like we had made a new friend along the way.

Our biggy for the day was to tour the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory in Waterbury Vermont. This was a special treat since we had just had our first Ben and Jerry’s ice cream two days ago in Lake Placid. I know, we’re alittle behind times. I’ve got to stop have sweets for lunch as I have probably gained the weight I worked so hard to loose during these past six month. Son Dave declared it the “best ice cream on the planet” when he called after I sent a picture of Terry in the tasting room over the phone. He may just be right!

When we talked to Zak and Cailen last night, they thought it was a great ice cream also. Their first day of school was great for them both. Zak started 5th grade in the Apple program so he will commute by bike with Dave to school and Kristen will pick him up after school or at Silver Auctions. Cailen’s 2nd grade teacher is the same teacher, Mr. J, as she had last year as well as her classmates being the same. She is excited about this and he strikes me as an awesome teacher. For her 3rd grade year she will also go to Apple.

The rolling hills of Vermont and New Hampshire are beautiful, green and tree covered. We followed Hwy 2 east from Waterbury to Lancaster and took a little SR 115 to Twin Mountain to a wonderful KOA with great showers.
