June 15-17, 2009 Lake Ponchitrain, L.A. to New Mexico

100 degree weather in Raton, New Mexico. Three days of traveling in 95 - 100 degree weather in northern Texas and the northeastern corner of New Mexico. We are camping at Raton, N.M. which is very close to the Colorado border and the temperature has dropped considerably in the time near sundown. This KOA is clean and the laundry was open long enough for us to get some clean clothes. After days of hot weather the break in the weather is great. As we travelled north in New Mexico, the temperature began to come down and this evening was cool, cool, cool as Terry watched his TV and Mandee and I use our computers.

Red River area.
Oil dereks in Texas.

Mandee's nap is well earned. As you see, the Dr. Pepper and Coke cartons are part of the standard requirements for the trip.
Mandee is working on the t-shirt that Cody made for her prior to graduation. Cody made one for herself, Cathy and Mandee and Mandee is adding sparkles, stars and more paint to hers as we camp for the night.

Sally feeds Terry as we drive along.
We drove the 30 miles causeway north across Lake Ponchitrain from New Orleans. Nothing but brown water for 30 miles and then the little shakes and fishing boats along the edge of the lake. Maybe these boats go out to sea from New Orleans or maybe they are crawfish boats. Don't know!!! But onward westward we head.
