June 18-22, 2009 Raton, NM to Douglas, WY

The pictures of this storm go backward with the end of the storm on top. We drove towards this very wicked looking black cloud and eventually it rained like crazy. Then we drove out from under it just as we drove into the campground at Douglas, Colorado. My dad told me that several tornados had touched down further south and after seeing that cloud, I'm so relieved that we missed it. Of course that goes without saying.

We drove from Raton, N. M. all the way almost through Colorado to Douglas, WY. This is Denver Colorado and the traffic jam took us over an hour to get through the city. At least it wasn't hot as we crept slowly north along through the city.

The cactus were blooming at the rest stop in Colorado. Amazing that they were blooming a month ago in Utah. I guess we are just following the blooming cactus. The rest stop said to stay on the pavement due to rattlesnakes. Mandee turned around and decided that using the bathroom in the RV was better than the possibilitiy of seeing a rattlesnake on the ground. Later that day we stopped again and when we opened the door there was a dead, very dead rattlesnake right at the bottom of the stairs. We laughted and she didn't think it was funny at all.

The mountains were so welcome as we drove north from New Mexico. The mountains were welcoming us homeward and were such a relief as the weather cools down as we head north.
