June 2, 2009 Resting in San Antonio

Desert of New Mexico
El Paso, Texas
Blooming yucca along the road.
Desert between El Paso and the Guadalupe Mountains.
Carlsbad KOA - oasis in the desert
Guadalupe Mountains north of El Paso where the Carlsbad Caverns and other caves are found. They rise up from the flat lands of northern Texas and southeastern New Mexico.

The "Big Room" tour in Carlsbad Caverns. The info says that 12 footballs fields will fit into this big room. The self-guided tour we took was 1 mile of easy walking on a paved path the wound snaked around the perimeter of this cave through little side rooms and around the rock formations.
Looking south from the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns. These spindly plants on the right were blooming with those little, feathery blossums. Like so many desert plants, these are designed for survival in the hot, desolute climate.
