29/08 Tuesday The KOA was amazing at Mt. Rushmore.  Families with kids can find things to do here all day long.  (KOA Link)  Terry slept in and Matty and I toured the grounds.  Her feet are getting tougher so she doesn’t mind the gravel as much or the tough grass.  Not sure my feet would get used to it.  She and I are trying to build up to walking for an hour each morning while Terry is sleeping.  Only one day so far have I logged more than 6,000 steps on my pedometer and that was in Deadwood.  Of course we walked all day that day.  7/29/08 Tuesday The KOA was amazing at Mt.

The park water system put too much pressure on the repair Terry did to the outside leak at home and now the leak is so bad that the water has to be turned off to the rig all the time.  So to use water, we have to go outside, turn the valve between the tank and the system, turn the pump on inside and use the sink or the toilet. Then it is back outside to turn the valve again.  Otherwise we are leaking water enough to make a puddle pretty fast under the back right side of the bus.

The monument to Crazy Horse was amazing.  When it is finished, it will truly be above all other monument and much large than the Presidents on Mt. Rushmore.  The American Indians are truly proud of their heritage and show it beautifully in the buildings, exhibits and so on around the site.

Down Hwy 385 we went to Custer and then into the Custer State Park which was pretty and many people were enjoying the lakes and grasslands.  The lands are not as rugged as farther north and bison roam freely here, but we didn’t see any today.  Smart as it was in the high 90s.  Back up Hwy 79 to Rapid City to the Rapid City KOA.  Not much other choice on the road we came in on.  We hope to go to the museum at Ellsworth Air Force Base tomorrow.  The fan belt is squealing and the radiator boiled over earlier in the day so at some point we will have some work done on the rig.  The leak in the water system is worse also by the outside faucet.  The inside repair job from several days ago has been great and we have hot water again.  Since we don’t do showers in the rig on a regular basis, we could if we wanted to do so.  When I am hot and sticky, I don’t mind the cold shower.  Gets the sweat and sun screen off.
