20th Anniversary

7/31/08 Thursday Our 20th wedding anniversary.  Seems so long ago and then where has the time went.  We met a couple along the trail around Devils Tower and talked about each other’s grandkids. They envied our 6 almost 7, and when they asked how long we had been married, I hesitated for a moment.  Inside my head I wanted to say, “forever, these are our kids, all of them” and then when I said “20” I felt sad because I want to say we’ve been married 40.  Funny how moments really make an impression isn’t it?

After leaving the Rapid City KOA, we mailed Aiden’s birthday package, stopped at a NAPA store for traveling supplies and headed into the barren Badlands by heading east on Hwy 44 then back up Hwy 240 to Wall on I-90.  Wall was one big tourist trap and gift shop to part a traveler from their money.  Even I wasn’t interested in stopping. Cars and motorcycles lined the main street.  I’ve never seen angled parking on both sides of each lane of traffic.  Almost more motorcycles than cars! Very hairy driving in a 33’ RV!  Terry can make this baby twist and turn around almost impossible angles.  I’ve stopped holding my breath when he does it.

I-90 is very straight but not very flat through the middle of South Dakota.  Some parts of it remind us of the frost heaves in Alaska.  Again we saw many motorcycles headed for Sturgis and many motor homes with trailers hauling what we guess to be motorcycles.  Decided to camp on the Missouri R. at Chamberlain and have dinner to celebrate our anniversary.  The campground is connected to a resort called Cedar Resort and it had a tiki bar outside so we were able to take Matty with us.  She laid quietly on my lap as we ate dinner because she knows she doesn’t get people food. Really impressed those around us. Lots of bugs as we leveled the rig.
